Seven Summer Shoes

We are less than a week out from July, which means summer is in full swing. During the summer months I tend to go barefoot most of the time since I'm usually in my house, in the backyard, at a pool, or at the beach. However when I'm wearing shoes, I like them to be fun, cute, and comfortable.  We all know the summer is filled with a wide range of events, so it is important to have the perfect summer shoe collection that fits all of your needs. Summer includes lots of trips, so it's important to have shoes with multi purposes that way you can save some room in your suitcase

I have seven different summer shoes that I rotate in and out depending on the day, event, and my outfit. While they are not all staples, I thought it would be fun to share them with you.

Jack Rogers
Yes, I have three different pairs of Jacks, and I am equally obsessed with each of them. I bought my Hamptons Sandals in platinum five years ago, and they are still in fabulous shape. The Lauren Sandal in white is great to pair with dresses and skirts. The Alana Sandals are such a fun look. I have them in navy, which matches with just about everything in my summer wardrobe. The tassels are cute and classy. It took me awhile to get used to this style, but eventually I realized how comfortable they were. The What I love about all three of these is that they can provide a dressier look when paired with the right outfit, or they can be great for a casual look with shorts and a tank. If you're looking to purchase a new pair but don't want to pay full price, then you can checkout their current sale or wait until Nordstrom's has one of their anniversary sales.

Casual Flip Flops
Everyone needs a pair of flip flops that they can wear to the beach, at the pool, to pilates class, or just around the house.  For me these sandals are Sanuk yoga mat flip flops. They are incredibly comfortable especially when you're doing a ton of walking. They're made out of recycled yoga mats, so if you are into being green then check them out.

A Small Heel
It's no secret that the summer season is known for weddings, graduation parties, family reunions, showers, and other fancier events.  I think it's important to have a little bit of a dressier shoe in your summer collection. Plus if you work through the summer, then you need a shoe to pair with your business casual outfits.  I am a fan of a small scrappy nude heel that you can pair with many different outfits.  I found these block heels from JCrew Factory a month ago for less than $30. They are cute, comfortable, and a great essential for the summer wardrobe.

White Sneakers
White sneakers are perfect to wear when you are doing lots of walking but still want that summer fashionista look. You can pair them with jeans, dresses, skirts, shorts, and even athletic clothing. My favorite pair of white sneakers are Jack Purcells. They have great support for days when I'm on my feet for an extended amount of time. I like them because they are a little different than your typical white converse plus they fit my narrow foot well.

Running Shoes
There is something about the summer that seems to have everyone on a fitness craze. For me, I like working out in the summer because I simply have more free time than I do during the other months of the year.  I also love running in the summer time because you get a good workout in a short amount of time. Recently I've discovered that a quality pair of running shoes make such a difference. My current pair are Brooks. You can find them here. I have the Ravenna's. I have nothing but fabulous things to say about them.

What's your go to summer shoe?

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

The winter weather has definitely arrived. Within the past month our weather has been up and down from the mid fifties all the way down to the teens. Needless to say I've needed a variety of winter shoes. I haven't needed to dress in business casual lately, so my outfits have all been on the more casual side of the spectrum.  While I'm home I like to wear slippers because our puppies are constantly getting water all over the floor, so these keep my feet warm and dry.

Something that makes the cold more bearable is having warm feet.  My solution for this are my bean boots. They are fashionable and practical for the chilly weather too.  They are adorable when paired with jeans, dresses, skirts, athleisure, and leggings. The versatility is what makes them one of my go to shoes during the winter.

Hunter boots are an essential year round in my wardrobe. As long as you wear warm socks, they keep your feet pretty dry and warm. I've heard that adding the liners makes a big difference too.  I wear these when it is raining outside and they definitely don't disappoint. I chose to get mine in a color because on dreary days we all need a little pick me up, and surprisingly my pair of red hunters seem to match with quite a lot. Lately, these have been my shoes to take the puppies out too.

Riding boots are another staple on my winter shoes rack. They make a casual outfit look a little cuter and are comfortable.  I love pairing them with a pair of black leggings, oversized sweater, and blanket scarf.  This light brown pair and black pair are two of my favorites.

On warmer days I opt for a lower cut boot, otherwise known as a bootie.  My parents bought me these for Christmas, and I have been loving them! So far my outfits have been pairing them with cuffed jeans, cute tops, and cardigans.  It's been a little chilly, even on warmer days, so I have also been pairing them with fun printed socks.

What are your go to shoes in the winter?

Wednesday Pinsday

Fall break is over and it's back to school for me.  My "break" went to quickly.   I spent my two days off doing observations in a middle school science classroom.  I absolutely loved it.  It was refreshing to see what I am actually working towards doing.  I saw it as quality motivation to help me persevere through school.

My break was not all spent on school related things.  I was able to enjoy myself a little bit here and there.  I even spent some time perusing on pinterest.  In case you forgot, I am addicted to pinterest.  I try not to go on the website too frequently because I end up spending way too much time pinning when I should be doing other productive things.  Since I allowed myself to go on a pinning spree, I thought I would share with you some of my favorites.

I just found this picture to be so adorable.  It's one of those things that makes you smile.

I want the leopard print shoes so bad.  When I was at DSW last week, I almost bought a pair similar to these but I restrained myself from buying two pairs of shoes.

Lilly for men.  Love it! Personally, I like the looks of the two men on the right.  I think the lilly print pants are a bit obnoxious.  The lilly prints ties are perfect though.

Just some mid week inspiration for you. After today it's almost the weekend.

Pumpkin ice cream sandwiches. I am dying to make these, I just need to find the time to do so.  I love pumpkin flavored anything.

I have been look everywhere online for cute sorority lettered shirts, they are so expensive.  I would love to make my own.  I found this website that provides you with step by step directions. Have any of you ever made your own shirt with your letters on them?

It seems like the chilly Fall weather arrived yesterday.  I can't wait to wear fall clothes.  I think pinterest has the best inspiration for outfits.

I'm off to my first class of the day.
Have a great day!

Dressing for Spring and Wishing for Summer

Happy Friday!

Let me tell you how this weather just has me so confused.  One day it is warm and the next it is rather chilly.  I never know how to dress appropriately for these varying temperatures.  It's that awkward time of year when I'm sitting in class and a girl to the left of me has flip flops on while the girl to the right has uggs and her north face on.  Like seriously not okay.

Personally I feel the appropriate shoe choice for this time of year are flats, sperrys, and toms.  You just can't go wrong with either of those three shoes.  Below are some of my favorite shoe choices for this time of year.  I obviously don't own all of these.  I have the navy TOMS and the completely tan Sperry topsiders.

On a different note: I survived my paper writing stress filled week!
And...
The weather today was gorgeous, so I went for a run this afternoon.  I don't remember the last time I went running outside, so I really enjoyed being outside in the fresh air.  The nice thing about my college is that it is located on the eastern shore of Maryland, which means we have a beautiful river front.  I ran about two and a quarter miles total.  I ran through campus, into town, down to the river, and  back.   I haven't been running much lately so my time was not what I would have liked it be, but at least I was out doing something fitness related.  You have to start somewhere.  This winter most of my fitness was focused primarily on lifting because I was training with my team, mandatory workouts with our personal trainer.  In becoming acquainted with the gym this winter, I discovered my love for the stationary bike.  I biked just about every day so my legs are strong, yeah! Anyways... I'm glad it is finally getting to be running weather, though, because I was starting to get bored with my same view from the bike every day.

This is the water front I ran past while I was out enjoying this, long awaited, Spring day!
